Shop + Cafe Inspiration: 28Posti, Milan

Salvage. This, in short, is the concept behind a new restaurant that has opened in the heart of Milan’s Navigli district early last April to coincide with the Salone del Mobile. For one, it sees the salvage of an ex-karaoke bar that had been closed for a number of years; it also sees the salvage of unwanted timber, transformed into furniture by a workshop made up of inmates — reusing, as it were, their manual skills —; and finally the taste of Calabrian cooking, given a new twist by chef Caterina Malerba. Shop Inspiration: Chalk Room at Hostem, London

British design studio JamesPlumb has created a dimly lit showroom filled with antique furniture in the basement of east London menswear store Hostem. Following their earlier refit of Hostem's shop floorJames Russell and Hannah Plumb were asked to redesign the shop's subterranean level to provide a quieter space for displaying the brand's most important collections.
